Changing your name and address on your registration certificate
You must inform the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) of any changes to your name, address or both. You must also inform the DVLA if either the name and address details shown on the registration certificate are incorrect.
How to change your name and address
You should complete the New Keeper section six on the registration certificate with your
- title and name detailsyou can not register the vehicle in joint name eg husband and wife etc
- enter your date of birthnot required if vehicle registered to a business
- fleet number for fleet operators
- your address detailsPO box addresses can only be used for companies and corporate bodies
- sign and date the declaration box
- send the registration certificate to DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1BA
What happens next
The DVLA will aim to deliver a registration certificate to you within four weeks of receiving your application. However, please allow six weeks before contacting DVLA.
Changing your name and address on your driving licence

Changing your name and address on your retention certificate
If you have a personalised registration mark on retention, you should return the retention certificate (V778), with a covering letter advising of the change of name and or address to Cherished Transfers, DVLA, Swansea SA99 1BW. An updated certificate will be delivered within six weeks. Failure to notify the DVLA of your change of address could result in you not receiving the automatic reminder form to extend the retention period.
