Why
Check the history of your car?
So why do I need to check the history of my car? Well basically
so that you know that it is actually your car. 375,000 cars are
stolen each year. Many get sold on to unsuspecting buyers. If you
are one of them you will have to give the car back to its rightful
owner and the crook that sold it to you will be long gone with your
cash.
1 in 12 cars checked by the trade last year showed mileage discrepencies.
You could buy car that is worth a fraction of what you pay for it.
Over 450,000 cars are 'written-off' by insurers anually because
of accident damage. Many are written off because the insurance company
deem it incapable of safe repair. Make sure that you don't buy the
one thats been sneaked back on the road again.
Also
make sure that there is no outstanding finance on your car.

If
you are thinking of purchasing a second-hand or used car,
van or motorbike you will want to avoid buying a stolen or
previously damaged motor vehicle. Vehicle Data Systems Limited
(VDS) believe that the information used to identify cars,
vans and motorbikes should be readily available, at reasonable
cost, to the general public when buying a second–hand or used
car, van or motorbike. This important data about a motor vehicle,
such as its registered Make, Model, Vehicle Registration Number
(VRM), Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) etc. is held by
The Drivers and Vehicles Licensing Agency (DVLA) and is listed
on the motor vehicle’s V5C document – commonly known as its
log book. The DVLA have licensed this data to VDS enabling
us to supply information on all cars, vans, and motorbikes
registered in the UK. VDS combine this data with other licensed
sources such as the Police Information Technology Organisation
(PITO) stolen vehicle information and the Association of British
Insurers (ABI) damaged vehicles information to produce a ‘Vcheck’
– Vehicle Status Check. This comprehensive Vehicle Status
Check gives details of the car, van or motorbike history,
enabling you to ensure that the motor vehicle you are considering
buying matches the DVLA records for that motor vehicle. ‘Vcheck’
– Vehicle Status Check alerts you if a car, van or motorbike
is listed with PITO( i.e. the Police) as stolen or has a history
with the Association of British Insurers (ABI) as a vehicle
which has been “written off” by an insurance company. The
results of a ‘‘Vcheck’ – Vehicle Status Check with its details
of the car, van or motorbike’s history is designed to give
buyers of used motor vehicles the information needed to negotiate
the purchase of the motor vehicle or to decline to purchase
and avoid driving away with a car, van or motorbike which
may be unsafe or that they may not be legally entitled to.
