Learner driver passes test.... and then crashes into licence centre
as he tries to drop off examiner
He was
poised to rip up his L plates after passing his driving test.
But unfortunately, one teenager's celebrations turned into disaster
after he lost control of his car in the state licence centre car park.
The boy had been attempting to drop off his examiner in the Pittsburgh
suburb of Bridgeville when the accident happened.
Witnesses
described the vehicle careering into the building, slamming through
the front door and a glass wall before grinding to a halt in the waiting
area.
Three people. including a 12-year-old girl, were injured, none of
them seriously.
Nick Martin, 16, was waiting for his driving test at the time and
described the chaotic scenes.
'The boy was sitting in the car saying, "I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I didn't
mean it,"' he told the Pittsburgh Tribune Review. 'I was in shock.'
Michael Deeb, who works at the next-door Dollar Bank Loan Centre,
described screaming and people lying on the floor. 'I actually thought
someone had dropped off the roof,' he said.
'The driver kept saying "I hit those people. I hit those people. I'm
sorry. I'm sorry. Are they all alright?" 'He was beside himself'.
Police said that the teenager had believed the automatic was in park
- when it was actually in drive.
It started moving and he panicked, hitting the accelerator instead
of the brake.
