Driving
while Tired - Notice the Warning Signs
|
|
Microsleeps
occurs when people are tired but are trying to stay awake,
most common in monotonous situations. Nodding off for just
a few seconds at the wheel can be fatal: if you are driving
on a motorway at 70mph and nod off for six seconds you would
travel nearly 200 metres.
|
Research
shows that normal sleep does not occur without warning. You
should know when you are starting to feel sleepy. Warning
signs include: increased difficulty concentrating; yawning;
heavy eyelids; eyes starting to 'roll'; and neck muscles relaxing,
making the head droop. If you experience these symptoms, you
should find somewhere safe to rest as soon as possible, rather
than trying to fight off tiredness. Winding down the window,
listening to music and talking to a passenger do not help
prevent sleep, although they may temporarily help you to stay
alert until you find somewhere safe to stop.

Man
wins £20,000 for stress over parking tickets & sends bailiffs
to collect Money
|
|
A
motorist sued a council for £20,000 over the stress of receiving
four parking tickets. He refused to pay the four £50 fines,
claimed he suffered emotional distress after bailiffs were
sent round to reclaim the money.
|
|
After
a court found in his favour, Mr Noon gave the council a
taste of its own medicine and sent his own bailiffs to its
offices to collect his damages. Mr Noon's battle against
Newham Council in East London started in October 2007 when
he was apparently captured by a council CCTV camera committing
the parking offences.

Car Insurance Payouts are less than people Thought
|
|
Passengers
in your car can clain millions of pounds in compensation from
your insurance. Did you know you could be covered for less
than £1000 for life threatening injuries. Would you
buy the extras in your insurance policy just to get more of
a payout? |
You
can buy separate accidental disability or personal accident
insurance, but realistically only for amounts way below the
millions of pounds available for other people. A £100,000
accidental disability policy with Norwich Union costs £60
a year and personal accident insurance, which includes a death
payment, is £125 but benefits are halved when you reach 65.
