Your
application
to
tax
your
vehicle
will
not
be
accepted
if
you
do
not
produce
or
complete
the
required
documentation
or
payment
to
support
your
application
form
V10,
V85,
V11
or
V85/1.
This
checklist
will
help
ensure
you
have
the
correct
documentation
for
the
type
of
vehicle
you
are
taxing.
All
documents
should
be
original;
photocopies
or
fax
copies
are
not
acceptable
to
accompany
your
application.
For
all
vehicles
- the
appropriate
rate
of
vehicle
tax
that
is
due
on
the
vehicle.
The

can
be
found
on
the
'Cost
of
vehicle
tax'
link
below.
In
some
cases
you
may
need
to
know
the
vehicle's
cylinder
capacity
(cc)
or
CO2
value
and
fuel
type
to
calculate
the
rate
of
vehicle
tax
you
need
to
pay.
This
information
can
be
found
on
the
V5,
V5C,
V5/2
or
V5C/2.

This
is
a
premium
rate
service
charged
at
49
pence
per
minute
- valid
certificate
of
insurance
or
a
cover
note

For
cars and motorcycles
- a
current MOT test certificate. Information
on when you need to MOT your vehicle
and how to get a replacement certificate
can be found on the links below
For
light goods vehicles
- a
current MOT test certificate for a
light goods vehicle if it is more
than three years old
For
other vehicles
- a
current MOT test certificate for a passenger carrying
vehicle with more than eight passenger seats, and taxis
(not including private-hire cars) more than one year
old
- a
current goods vehicle test certificate for heavy good
vehicles more than one year old. Certain goods vehicles
are exempt from testing, see below for any queries
- a
plating certificate (if one is needed)
- a
weight certificate (if one is needed)
- a
certificate of initial fitness or certificate of conformity
(refers to bus taxation class only)
- a
reduced pollution certificate (for vehicles being taxed
in reduced pollution class). Drivers of larger vehicle
and buses are entitled to vehicle tax incentives. Further

to engine size or fuel type
If
there has been a change to the cylinder capacity or the fuel
type of the vehicle which will affect the amount of vehicle
